At Las Vegas' Only Drive-In, Retro Fun

Who has time to go to the movies when visiting Las Vegas? Lots of people, apparently. There are roughly two dozen movie theater multiplexes in the area, and many of those are located inside casino resorts. Red RockSouth Point, Green Valley RanchThe OrleansPalmsThe Canneryand Sam's Town all have multi-screen theaters. There’s even the U.A. Showcase 8 hidden away near MGM Grand on The Strip. But, if you’re feeling a little old school, consider a visit to the West Wind 6 Drive-In theater.
It seems ironic that this slice of Americana is thriving in a city of sin and excess. But for “ozoners,” the affectionate nickname for drive-in devotees, there is nothing that can duplicate the experience of sitting in your car, munching on popcorn and enjoying the show. Remember that scene in Greasewhere Danny (John Travolta) pined for his Sandy (Olivia Newton John) under the big drive-in screen? Those speaker poles are gone now (replaced with FM radio sound), but you can still hang out by the swing sets and watch the dancing snacks.
